About ENVIS Centre – Manipur

The Environmental Information System (ENVIS) Centre, Manipur has been implemented by the Environment and Ecology Wing, Department of Forest & Environment, Govt. of Manipur as State Host Institute under the financial assistance & guidelines from Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India. The Centre was a Node under the EMCBTA Project, assisted by the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India during 2002 – 2003, now the same Node has been converted as Centre under the same ministry.

The CENTRE works towards fulfillment of objectives of ENVIS such as Data Base Development, Experts Database, Abstracting Database, structure, Modules, Website Management of Information System, website development, Content Management, Linkages, Updation structure, Dynamicity & VPN Facility, Indian State Level Basic Environmental Information Database (ISBEID) with GIS Interface, Environment Information dissemination on the allocated subject areas through publication like Quarterly Newsletter, State of Art Reports, etc. as well as through electronic media; Moreover, identification of information / data gaps in the specified subject areas hasbeen evaluated and action taken to fill the gaps.Recent database on Environmental Issues of the State is being uploaded on website www. manenvis.nic.in. The Centre is preciously engaged on the online & offline feedbacks for the ENVIS activities.

The ENVIS Centre Manipur is running under the Chairmanship of Dr. M. Homeshwor Singh, Head of the office of Environment and Ecology Wing, Govt. of Manipur and Dr. Y.Nabachandra Singh, Scientific Officer, Environment and Ecology Wing, Govt. of Manipur and Dr. T. Brajakumar Singh, Research Officer, Environment and Ecology Wing, Govt. of Manipur as its Co-ordinator and Principal investigator respectively as:

• State level Interdepartmental meetings, invited by Addl. Chief Secretary

• By appointing resource persons
• Visit to the head of departments, offices, institutions, etc. with quarry format
• State Government directives, issues by Addl. Chief Secretary
• Through questionnaires, capacity building workshops / meets
• Interacting with local peoples
• Consulting library
• Outsourcing to the experts (only specific topic like identification, thematic maps,etc.)
