World Environment Day
The State level World Environment Day was observed at the historic and sacred Kangla, Imphal with Shri O. Ibobi Singh, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Manipur and Shri Th. Debendra Singh, Hon’ble Minister, Forest and Environment along with other dignitaries planting trees in and around Kangla.
In the key note address given by Dr. M. Homeshwor Singh, Senior Scientific Officer and Head of Environment & Ecology Wing, expressed about the significance of the day as it was being observed to increase the level of awareness among the people to conserve natural environment and preserve mother Earth. The theme for the year is 'Many species, one planet and one future'.
Many Government Institution as well as various other organizations also observed the Day on the same theme in different places.In commemoration of the Day Biodiversity, Ecology and Environment Network (BEENET), Manipur inaugurated a habitat site for valuable indigenous plants in the Manipur University campus.
