The Lake is situated in Bishnupur district, about 20 km due south-wet of Imphal. The lake located at an altitude of 783 m above MSL has dimension measuring 0.741 km in length and 0.494 km. in breath during the rainy season. The total surface area of the lake during the raining season is 0.366 sq km and the average depth during the rainy season measures 2.18m. The shore-line length measures 2.47 km and the volume of the lake is estimated at 0.0052 cu km.

The existence and sustenance are much threatened due to excessive human interference. The growth and distribution of plant species have deteriorated significantly due to encroachments and at the present only 26 macrophytic plant species are found distributed in the lake in different seasons of the year. Hardly 10 out of the 26 species are found distributed regularly round the year. The production of Trapa fruits and Euryale ferox fruits have decreased to a great extent in the lake. The endemic fish species have been found gradually vanishing from the lake.
