Thoubal, November 29 2020: The tree saplings planted by the Joint Coordinating Committee on Wildlife and Biodiversity Manipur and People for Nature (PFN) as a part of the initiative to make the world green on June 18 in Khangabok part 3 were found burning along with paddy husks.

As news about the fire reached them, members of the Joint Co-ordinating Committee on Wildlife and Biodiversity Manipur and People for Nature (PFN) rushed to the spot and were able to save some of the tree saplings, today.

The tree saplings planted by the Forest Department, NGOs, clubs and civil organisations are frequently damaged and destroyed by miscreants, said a statement.

JCCWB active members and PFN Thoubal general secretary Th Dipak Meitei stressed on the need for a Tree Preservation Act in Manipur like other States.

He further appealed to the public to report any miscreants felling trees and setting fire in the forest.
