Environment day at Kangpokpi

KANGPOKPI | Jun 6 : Keithelmanbi Military Colony (KMC) Riders with an aim to promote the importance of environment and create awareness among the school going children observed World Environment Day yesterday by planting saplings within the campus of schools within Keithelmanbi. Established with a motive to check speed along National Highway - 2 considering the frequent road mishap which even killed many people in the past, KMC Riders observed the World Environment Day under the theme “Let’s Go Green KMC”. The observation was jointly sponsored by the local MDC Lamminthang Kipgen and forest department, Gamnom Sapormeina, Kangpokpi district. “School children should be taught the importance of environment not by theory but in practical and makes them feel the fresh air provided by the trees only then they instigation to love nature and environment will be fruitful”, asserted Lamminthang Kipgen, the local MDC who kicked off the tree plantation drive of KMC Riders in connection with the observation in the presence of KYA general secretary, Hengougin Dimngel. Around hundred different varieties of saplings were planted by the KMC Riders at the campus of Primary Health Sub Centre, Keithelmanbi and schools within the village including Keithelmanbi High School, HM. Hr. Sec. School, Ngaimel Children School, Highland Academy and Brighter Eng. Hr. Sec. School. Meanwhile, 38 Assam Rifles Kangpokpi Post also observed the World Environment Day with the participation of Good Shepherd English School, Kangpokpi yesterday at its Kangpokpi Post. Around 50 saplings were planted in the surrounding of 38 AR Kangpokpi Post and Good Shepherd English School areas which is adjacent to the AR Post.
