Imphal, July 20 2019: Rising mercury level over the years and deficient monsoon rain are results of mass deforestation and other human actions which damaged the environment, said Revenue Minister Karam Shyam today.

The Minister was participating a tree plantation drive at the complex of Sub-Deputy Collector (SDC) office at Yairipok under Thoubal district today.

Human encroachment and uncontrolled felling of trees have greatly contributed to global warming, he said pointing out that felling of trees increased level of C02 in the air.

Trees trap C02 and cools the earth, he said urging people to plant more trees.

Frequent flash floods in these 4/5 years are consequences of deforestation, he added.

Planting trees have no meaning if one doesn't care and ensure their growth, the Minister said appealing all to water and take proper care of the saplings they have planted.

He also assured all possible help from his side to improve the SDC office infrastructures.

Wangkhem AC MLA Keisham Meghachandra, SDC Yairipok K Raghumani and Yairipok PS OC Md Riyajuddin also took part in the event.
